iPhone 7 Specs and Features
- 4.7-inch IPS LCD Display – the base model for the iPhone 7 may still have the smaller-sized screen out of the bunch. However, the 3D Touch tech might be featured as well. It was introduced in the recent iPhone 6S several week ago. No OLED screens yet as the plans are expected to be carried out not until 2018. Maybe they'll appear on the iPhone 9.
- A10 Processor and 3GB RAM – TSMC won the contract for manufacturing Apple's new A10 processors. These are expected to power the new iPhone 7 line. No clock frequencies and features have been announced yet, but it should be anticipated that it will be more powerful than the A9 chips found in the iPhone 6. More RAM means more apps to run. Together with the new processor, it could bring significant performance improvements
- USB Type-C Ports, Wireless Charging – the new USB tech standard has been slowly, but surely penetrating the market for some time now. If the new iPhone features the USB-C port, it could help push the tech more into the mainstream. It will allow for faster data speeds and charging. There are also talks that it would support headsets. However, there is still a chance that the phone could use the same lightning port that Apple loves. Talks of wireless charging are also surfacing.
- First Waterproof iPhone – there have been rumours and reports that the iPhone 7 will be the first waterproof model from Apple. No more buying expensive waterproof cases that could also fail anytime.
- Thinnest iPhone Eve – Apple might make the new line of phones to be their thinnest. It could be thinner than 3.5mm, according to Know Your Mobile. The bad news is that the traditional and universal 3.5mm audio jack may not be present in the new design.
- Custom Headphones? – since the jack will be taken out, Apple might force users into buying their own adapter or custom headsets. It's a good marketing idea as almost everyone with a smartphoneuses earphones or headphones from time to time. This would lead to more revenue generated from sales, but it might end up making more people hate the Cupertino-based company.
- No More Home Button – the 3D Touch tech will have to replace the iPhone 7's home button. A different pressure of touch can just be used to go back to the home screen. It could also make way for more screen estate on the phone or just make it more compact.
- 24 MP camera – iPhones already have good quality cameras but quite low in terms of megapixel counts. Apple might finally address this in the iPhone 7 by bumping the MP count up to 24 megapixels.
- Intel LTE Modem Chip – it isn't official yet, but Intel has about 1000 engineers focused on developing an LTE modem chip for the iPhone 7. If they are successful, this could lead to a partnership between the two. It would probably replace the 9X45 LTE chip currently found on all iPhone models that support the tech.
- 256GB Storage Option – One of the complaints for iPhones is their lack of expandable storage. Apple may have found a workaround for the problem by just springing a new 256GB option for the iPhone 7. This means more files can be saved, stored and more aps installed. It doesn't mean that Apple will remove the 16GB base option, but it could be one of their moves.
- 3,100 mAH Battery – instead of finding a way to keep the iPhone from consuming more battery, Apple could have just decided to feature a massive 3,100 mAh battery. It is claimed to be 12.7 larger than the iPhone 6 Plus's current battery, according to MacRumors. There are some contradictions with the rumours as the iPhone 7 is expected to be thin and not bulkier than the last one.
- iOS 10 – it is now known yet if Apple decides to call it iOS X or not. However, the new iPhone would most likely run the next major update from iOS 9.
iPhone Release Date and Price
Apple is like a creature of habit. If one would follow their release schedules in the past, the iPhone 7 could be expected to be launched somewhere between Q3 and Q4 2016. The iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7S could be launched months later after the release of the base model. There have been reports of an iPhone 6C in the works too. In terms of price, the iPhone 7 could easily cost at least £340. If all the other magnificent features are true, then Apple might decide to put a price tag of £400, excluding the costs of the proprietary jack or custom headsets. Apple might reveal or announce the iPhone 7 in its next Apple WWDC 2016 Keynote Address in June 2016. It could be later at around September 2016, according to wheniskeynote. All specs and features might change significantly as they are based on rumours and pieces of leaks. Pricing and launch dates may also vary once Apple announces the real deal.
