Google Photos now properly stores iPhone's Live Photos

Google Photos is a great service for storing all of your precious memories and snaps. But until now, it didn't support the iPhone's Live Photos feature.

An update has been released that adds support for Live Photos, ensuring that they're saved to the cloud exactly as they were captured rather than as still images.

Live Photos, which are available on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, capture 1.5 seconds of video and audio around a still picture that you take. This makes for a more immersive snapshot, but it can take up quite a bit of storage space. That's why it's particularly useful that Google Photos now supports the format.

Along with Live Photos support, the update also improves the overall speed of the app and puts less of a cache usage demand on devices that are equipped with less storage space.
