Apple could have a new smaller iPad Pro soon

Apple's current iPad Pro is a beast of a machine - a 12.9 inch tablet that's intended to be paired with a keyboard and used as a full-on laptop replacement. Now we're hearing the lineup might have a new addition with a smaller version of the Pro.

9to5mac has inside info that Apple will launch a 9.7 inch iPad Pro in March instead of the rumoured addition to the iPad Air range. It's thought that the tablets will be announced on the 15th of March 2016 and could start shipping as early as March 18th, likely in selected countries at first including the USA.

The new model is likely to have the same high spec as its bigger brother, helping to position it as a device that can really take over from your laptop, at least once you're using the optional smart keyboard. The Apple Pencil accessory will also be supported and those four front facing speakers will make the transition too. It's thought the pricing will be a little lower than the full size model, closer to the iPad Air, and the oldest iPad Air is likely to be phased out around the same time as the iPad Pro 9.7 launches.
