This secret Netflix menu could end all your buffering woes

There’s nothing that will kill your Netflix vibe quicker than the dreaded buffering wheel, delaying that House of Cards finale even more.

Given that such an incident is predominantly caused by internet speed you can’t help but feel slightly powerless as you watch the wheel spin. But fear not – there might just be a solution out there.

Hats off to Thrillist, who have discovered a secret menu within the the service that enables users to change the speed at which you stream your content – lowering it to prevent buffering, essentially.

It’s worth pointing out now that this will mean image quality drops, but many might consider it worthwhile if it means they can get through entire episodes buffer-free.

Here’s how to do it: If you’re running Chrome, when a show is playing you need to press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S if using a PC, and Ctrl+Shift+Opt+S if you’re on a Mac. This will open the pop-up menu seen above.

The key column here is the bitrate column in the centre. You’ll notice that all options will be highlighted when you first open it. But if you’re connection is struggling de-select some of the higher value options. This should fix the problem.

You can also open the menu if you’re watching on a games console (Xbox, PlayStation and Wii) by entering the following sequence on the D-pad: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, up, up, up, up.

Enjoy.
