Viral iPhone unlock hack video explains how to use Siri to avoid passcode - but it's all a fake

Posted to YouTube last week, the video has already amassed over 400,000 views - but the technique doesn't actually work

A video posted on YouTube last week appears to show a way to unlock an iPhone without knowing the user's passcode .

The 35-second video clip is called "iPhone Unlock WITHOUT Passcode Glitch *New 2016*" and has been viewed over 400,000 times since being uploaded on March 3rd.

Unfortunately for would-be phone thieves the method shown in the viral video doesn't work.

The video shows an unnamed user gaining access to an iPhone by using Siri to ask the iPhone what time it is.

When the time is displayed, the YouTuber then clicks on the Timer option at the bottom of the screen and uses 'When Timer Ends' option to buy more tones from the App Store.

According to the user - tapping the home screen from the App Store takes you back to the home screen and the phone is unlocked.

But what's not clear is that by hitting the home screen to activate Siri in the first place engages the TouchID fingerprint scanner.

In the case of this video, the user's fingerprint is added to the phone's system .

If you try to repeat the process on a locked phone, the TouchID scanner will prevent you from proceeding to the App Store.

Mirror Online has verified this and, judging from the comments on the YouTube video, so have several others.

"If you use the home button to activate Siri whilst having your finger registered, you'll unlock your phone (even though there is no visual cue that signals this). When you use Siri and unlock your phone, it follows that you can open apps other than just the clock app.," wrote one commenter.

Another said: "Lol your thumb was scanned while using Siri"

Many tipsters and hackers believe there are ways to break into a locked iPhone - but even the FBI is currently unable to get into one.
