Apple Watch 2 could be revealed in June - but iExperts think little will have changed

Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks about the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch was the first truly new device from the tech giant in five years - and the first since the death of iconic leader Steve Jobs .

It's now a year old and tech experts are predicting it's due a refresh - the Apple Watch 2 .

There was some talk it could be revealed alongside the iPhone SE - but all we got was a few new straps to look at.

Now the expectation is turning to the company's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) taking place in June.

According to news reports in China, one Apple supplier believes that new hardware and software will be revealed by June 2016.

"Quanta’s chairman Barry Lam, who revealed during an investor meeting that a new generation of the Apple Watch is already being worked on," reported G for Games , which pegged the release as the end of 2016's second quarter.

However, even if Apple does reveal a new version of the Watch, many iFans are saying it will be an incremental upgrade rather than a full redesign.

The second-generation Apple Watch will "feature an essentially identical design to the first model, focusing on internal components such as a larger battery and a display with improved outdoor visibility," explained Apple Insider .

The site quotes TGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who believes that Apple Watch sales in 2015 fell below expectations.

Apple hasn't revealed the sales figures for its first wearable, but Kuo says he believes it to be around 10.6 million were shipped in 2015. That stands starkly against the 232 million iPhones it sold.

Whether a newly upgraded watch will satisfy Apple's legion of fans remains to be seen. Only time will tell.
