The iPhone 5se, or as some are calling it, the iPhone se, was the device people had first expected to arrive at the March Apple Event, thanks to the expert sleuthing of 9to5Mac’s super-insider Mark Gurman. The reason why the device is named as such is because it’s based on the iPhone 5s, but with a few wrinkles making it a “special edition” device. The phone should appeal to Apple buyers who still miss the company’s smaller smartphones, as it may likely come with a 4-inch Retina Display, plus other iPhone 5s fundamentals. Pricing should presumably cheaper, while its release date, according to reports, may take place on March 25.
A new iPad Pro is also expected, although many also refer to it as the iPad Air 3, making it the third-generation 9.7-inch iPad Air, and possibly a tablet that comes with a lot of iPad Pro features. This could mean support for the Apple Pencil, USB-C support, enhanced speakers, and a smaller keyboard case. As for the device’s basic specs, that shouldn’t matter much if the iPad Air 3/smaller iPad Pro will come with many key iPad Pro features, but reports tend to agree on the possibility of a 9.7-inch screen. But will this tablet be a third-generation iPad Air or a smaller iPad Pro? We can’t say for sure at this point in the game, but we can all agree that this slate will be Apple’s first for the 2016 model year, and presumably not the last.
While it would undoubtedly be too much to expect the launch of a new iPhone 7 (come on now), let’s talk about the Apple Watch 2 for a moment. Last year, many speculated that Apple would launch an Apple Watch 2 at around the same time it announced the original Watch at last year’s March Apple Event. But now, there’s a good chance Apple will offer some consolation by announcing new features, accessories, or peripherals for Watch, as it likely won’t be announcing a second-generation Watch. We like to think of it as Apple going with a fair gap in between the unveiling/release of Watch and Watch 2.
Speaking of the reliable Mr. Gurman, he wrote on 9to5Mac late last month that some of Apple’s older products may be axed at the March event, including the first-gen iPad Air and the iPad mini 2. That’s another thing we can expect on March 21, especially since there have been several sightings of older iPads showing up in blowout sales in the run-up to the event.
